Super Raft Whale Watching Highlights

The whale watching tour on their super raft leaves from Port Allen in Eleele on the west coast of Kauai (click here for directions).

See the most stunning marine life in their natural habitat on this amazing whale-watching tour. Humpback whales migrate to the Hawaiian Islands during the winter months, December to March, for the purpose of calving and mating. The warm inshore waters surrounding the Hawaiian islands offer the young whales protection from predators as they build up enough body fat for their 3,000-mile journey north.

Watch as humpback whales complete acrobatic breaches, pec slaps, spy hopping, and more. Whale sightings are not guaranteed but the captain and crew are experts at spotting them. They abide by federal requirements to keep a safe distance so as to not disturb the whales.

While whales can be spotted all over the island, they usually head down to the calmer waters of Poipu.

Captain J’s Offshore Adventures Review: Why We Love It

Captain J’s offshore adventures offers a good tour size on a comfortable boat. Between their knowledgeable crew and the larger boat, this is a great whale watching tour.

Super raft is super fun

Enjoy their 37′ super raft, which gives you space comparable to a catamaran while still having the maneuverability of a power raft. There’s a bathroom on board as well as safety rails and cover to help you get out of the sun. Their raft can comfortably accommodate up to 28 people.

2-Hour Duration Tours

Daily tours for 2 hours. Ages 5 and older are welcome.

Departs from the Port Allen Boat Harbor

The departure location is Port Allen, a central location for those staying on the south shore. Get there in just 20 minutes from Poipu beach. Or, make a day of it and visit Waimea Canyon first before spending the afternoon aboard their boat.

Excellent Crew

Captain J’s has fantastic reviews thanks to their wonderful crew. If you’re going to spend two hours on a boat, it’s helpful to enjoy the crew members and tour guides.

Captain J’s Offshore Adventures Review: Things to consider

Captain J offers two tours that leave two times per day, both in the afternoon. While their other boat trips head to the NaPali Coast, on this two-hour boat ride you will not get to cruise the NaPali Coast. Instead, you’ll take a short ride to Poipu and spend your time in the calmer waters cruising around. If you are interested in seeing the NaPali Coast (which is absolutely beautiful) you’ll need to book a separate tour. This is one of our favorite sunset sails.

Only kids 5+ will be allowed to join the tour.

If your plans change, they do have a strict cancellation policy. You must cancel at least 48 hours in advance of the check-in time to receive a refund.

Frequently Asked Questions

What time are check-in and departure?

They offer two time slots for their whale watching tours (Winter months).  The first leaves the harbor at 1:15pm with a 12:35pm check in.  The second leaves the harbor at 3:45pm with a 3:05pm check in.

Where do I check in?

Check in is in their retail/gallery located at 4353 Waialo Road Unit 4B in Eleele.

What is the cancellation policy?

In the unfortunate event that a cancellation is necessary, they require 48 hours’ notice of the cancellation or reschedule from the check in time . This allows them enough time to find new friends to enjoy the coastline. Cancellations inside of 48 hours will be assessed the full fare.
