Apex Fishing Charters Details
If you’re looking for a great Kauai fishing charter, Apex Fishing Charters won’t disappoint. Located just 5 minutes from Lihue Airport, they run 2 charter times per day, 6:00am and 11:00am for between 4 and 10 hour fishing days. You can choose between a private charter with just your party of up to 6 guests, or a shared charter with other parties still with a limit of 6 guests.
The waters off the shore in Kauai are notoriously rougher than other islands, so comfort is key on a fishing boat. Their 47-foot Buddy Davis Sport Fisher is equipped with leather couches, bathrooms, air conditioning, a kitchen, and even a fighting chair, providing maximum comfort for the roughest conditions. All that being said, safety is a top priority, so they won’t go out if conditions are too dangerous, and they do tend to mellow out a few hours into your charter. If you tend to get motion sickness, be sure to take the appropriate medication for the best experience.
Now for the catch – the fish, of course – no fishing charter company can guarantee a catch or even bites as that’s simply not how nature works. These captains and crew want nothing more than to walk away with massive, plentiful fish, but that just won’t be the case every time. Some days they’ll come out of a charter with 10 fish and a 150lb tuna, or even the ever-sought-after enormous blue marlin, and some days they’ll come out empty-handed. Rest assured, this team will do everything they can to bring home fish, and they know all the best spots, but keep your catch expectations low and hopes high.
If you or anyone on the boat does catch something, everyone gets the opportunity to take some home. For all fishing charters on Kauai, the catch belongs to the boat, but Apex’s policies are very generous – that 25lb+ fish you caught? All yours if you want it. Just be sure to take the appropriate amount for your party to eat within a few days because no company will ship it home for you.
Apex Fishing Charters FAQ
What kind of Fish will we be catching?
Depending on the season you can expect to catch one of the many varieties of Tuna, Mahi-Mahi, Ono (Wahoo), Blue Marlin, Striped Marlin, and the occasional Spearfish (Hebi) or Sailfish. They also provide bottom fishing gear where you can expect to catch Snapper, Trevally, Barracuda, or even a Shark!
What time should I arrive?
Arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled departure time for a safety briefing. 5:45 am for morning departures, and 10:45 am for afternoon departures.
What is the Cancellation Policy?
With 48 hours or more notice, you will receive a full refund. Within 48 hours there will be a 50% charge, and if you cancel within 24 hours of your charter, or no-show the morning of, you will be charged in full. If the Charter is canceled due to weather, then you will be fully refunded.
Are there any guest restrictions?
Young children are not allowed for safety reasons, and the charters are best suited for ages 10 and up, but they are open to a case-by-case basis for ages between toddlers and 10 years old. As noted, Kauai’s waters can be rough, so anyone with balance issues, a heart condition, back issues, who is in a leg cast, or who requires a mobility aid is not advised to take the charter. They also do not advise fishing and will not allow you to join if you are pregnant.
What type of weather should I expect?
The Kauai open ocean conditions average 10-14kt winds, and 3-4ft seas. So please expect small white cap conditions. The seas will be a little rocky and rolly, so you’re advised to take motion sickness medicine if there is any concern about sea sickness.
