About the Manta Ray Night Snorkel and Dive

Head out on a sunset boat ride with Kona Ocean Adventures and have your choice: snorkel or dive with manta rays. If you’re a snorkeler, you’ll stay at the surface of the water holding onto a floating board while you watch the manta rays swim and feed beneath you. For the certified divers in the group, you’ll head down to the sandy bottom where you will see the mantas swim above and next to you.

The boat tour leaves from the Honokohau small boat harbor. From there it will either head to Manta Heaven in Makako Bay or down to Manta Village in Keahou Bay (depending on manta ray sightings). It’s a 20-30 minute boat ride to the snorkeling sites.

Tour FAQs

Can I do the manta ray dive with no diving experience?

Only certified divers are allowed to join the dive. If you’re not certified, you’ll still have a great time on the surface with the manta rays.

What if one person in the party wants to dive and another person wants to snorkel?

That’s the great part about heading out with Kona Ocean Adventures. There are divers and snorkelers on the same boat. So if you’d like to dive while another person wants to snorkel, they can accommodate both of you.

Is gear included in the price?

For snorkelers, your gear is included. For divers, included in the price is a wetsuit, weights, and tanks. BDC, Reg, Computer is available for an additional $30.

Other details to know

Check-in for the tour is at the Honokohau Marina. You’ll enter into the large parking lot and see a large, vibrantly painted boat with octopus tentacles. That’s them!
