Turtle Canyon Snorkeling Tour Details

We know you want to swim with the Hawaiian green sea turtle, or honu, when you visit Hawaii, and this is a great activity to do just that. Hawaii does a fantastic job of protecting marine life, so your guide will make sure you know the laws and best practices for snorkeling with sea turtles, snorkel safety tips, and know where to find the turtles! Please bring and wear mineral-based sunscreen to keep the reef alive and vibrant!

Turtle Canyon is a natural turtle cleaning station, where sea turtles go to situate themselves above the reef and reef fish will come through and clean their shells. Fish will remove algae, barnacles, and even parasites, so this is important for the turtle’s health. Plus it’s also pretty cool to see. It’s no wonder it’s such a popular snorkeling spot, and this tour offers guaranteed turtle sightings or you get to go out again free of charge.

This tour sets out on a power raft, which we love for a fun ride and a lower chance of seasickness, just keep in mind that it’s not as comfortable of a ride as a boat and may not be the best option for younger children. An added bonus to the power raft is the small group size. Unlike big boat tours, this raft carries up to 6 guests, making it a semi-private, small group experience. Of course, if you’re a party of 6, find a day and time that hasn’t been booked and you’ll have yourself a private tour!

If you’re looking for a more budget friendly experience, this Turtle Canyon large group tour won’t disappoint! You can also skip the crowds around Waikiki and still snorkel with sea turtles and dolphins on this Ko Olina Snorkel Tour, a 45-minute drive from Waikiki.

Turtle Canyon Snorkeling Tour FAQ

When is the best time to book for a tour?

The earlier the better! The morning tours to have beautiful visibility and a calmer experience with the waves, especially if you’re prone to motion sickness . However, the sea turtles visit the reef often and are there all day long so not to worry if you book a later time you will still be able to see lots of tropical fish, sea turtles, and possibly even dolphins on the way out to sea.

What is the cancellation policy?

Strict 24-hour cancellation policy. If you need to cancel or reschedule your tour, you must do so 24 hours before your tour time. After this timeframe they will not provide a refund or allow you to reschedule your time. No exceptions.

Note : If they contact you in regards to your booking needing to be canceled due to weather concerns you will be issued a full refund or the ability to reschedule. If you have not received contact about cancellation expect your tour to operate and be on time!

What should I bring to the tour with me?

If you would like to bring water or a small snack you are welcome to as there is a cooler to keep those items cold during the tour. They also recommend bringing a towel, reef-safe sunscreen, sunglasses, and having your swimsuit on before the tour begins.

Will I see dolphins?

There is always a chance to see playful spinner dolphins! They’re spotted most often during morning tours and more in the summertime on the way out to the snorkel destination.

When can I see Whales?

Humpbacks Whales come to Hawaii every winter between the months of December- Early Spring. There is a good chance you will see them if you book within these months and it’s an experience you don’t want to miss!

Can I get close to the turtles?

There are very strict NOAA rules and regulations that state every individual must remain at least 10 feet from them at all times. This is to respect and not disrupt the animals in their natural habitat also for your own safety.

Is this tour safe for pregnant women?

Unfortunately for your own safety, this tour is not recommended for pregnant women as it is a boat tour that reaches high speeds, potentially sharp turns, and could be a bumpy ride.

Do I have to know how to swim?

Knowing how to swim is highly recommended as this activity can be physically demanding. There will be a certified safety diver in the water with you at all times and floatation devices to assist those in need.

What if I have motion sickness?

You’re less likely to get seasick on a power raft, but if you’d like to take extra precautions, take the appropriate medication as directed before your tour.
