In many cases, after pickup from the airport or a location at or near your Waikiki hotel, your guide will then head to historic downtown Honolulu. It has been the center of power in the Hawaiian Islands for a long time. We’ll stop to see the King Kamehameha the Great statue, which is covered in gold and wrapped in leis.
From here we will head out to the North Shore and stop at the Dole Plantation to enjoy a mid-morning treat and relax in the gardens for a little bit.
Your guide will provide wonderful stories, provide little tips, point out features, and outline historical events as we cruise across the island to the North Shore, driving through quaint north shore towns and past famous beaches, stopping at various areas where available. Donʻt worry, from your elevated, comfortable seat, you will get some of the best views available on the road at places where we canʻt let guests out.
Our morning continues, wrapping around the North Shore. We will stop at various places but the main lunch spot is in Kahuku, an old sugar mill turned into a great place to stop, shop, and eat. Clean bathrooms and great food await. We will give you time to explore and choose from some of the great options. There is no “box lunch” on this trip. Get out and support the local small chefs creating amazing dishes!
Once the group finishes, the tour continues down the leeward side of the island at a leisurely pace. The roads are small and right at the ocean, so sit back and relax to enjoy the coastal views. We will perk you up again soon with a stop at a beautiful oceanside park followed by a macadamia and tropical fruit farm. Get some coffee or other drinks to prepare you for the next amazing stop.
One of our favorite stops on the complete tour is the Byodo-in Temple. A recreation of a 600-year-old temple in Japan. This serene setting is a great place to quietly relax. A nice change of pace if your vacation and life have been hectic. This is also a great reminder of the many cultures that make up the island of Oahu. Your guide will tell you all about it with great personal stories.
The day is not over yet! A visit to one of the historically important places with one of the best views in the islands is up next. Nuʻuanu Pali Overlook holds a rich history and was the location where a great battle was fought, uniting the islands under Kamehameha the Great.
From this vantage point, we can see our next stop, along the leeward coast, near a lighthouse. We will make our way around the southern tip of Oahu, stopping at various lookouts, checking out a blowhole, and taking in the views of the city before returning to Waikiki around Diamond Head.

About Hawaii Tours
Erica and I are very much DIY Hawaii travel people but sometimes a guided tour is the best and easiest way to experience the islands. A guided tour supports local tour guides, reduces the number of cars on the roads, and they can take care of permits and reservations that are hard to acquire. We have developed a relationship with one of the owners of Hawaii Tours, Daniel Logtenberg, and trust him with our Hawaii vacation planning.
Here is what Dan has to say about his company and tours:
We’ve been offering high-quality cultural and sightseeing tours throughout the Hawaiian islands for 20+ years – and we love what we do! So expect to be greeted with a friendly “Aloha” when you contact us by phone or when we pick you up at your hotel. Also, we’ll always do our very best to make your Hawaiʻi dream vacation a reality because we know you have worked hard, and your holiday time is important. You see, it’s not just our pleasure; it’s our honor to be of service to our guests.
We take great pride in showing you the natural, historical, and cultural splendors of our beautiful tropical paradise. Hawaiʻi has a special place in our hearts, which is why respecting and caring for these precious islands is of utmost importance to us. We care for the land or “Malama the aina” by showing you the best of Hawaiʻi so that you can fall in love with this incredible destination too… just as we did so many years ago.
