Big Island Salt Farm Tour: Kona Sea Salt

I bet you don’t realize how much there is to know about sea salt. Sea salt has been gaining popularity over standard table salt, but most of us don’t really know the story of how either get to our tables. Kona Sea Salt not only does salt differently, but you can tour the farm and learn about the months long process of bringing pristine ocean water from 2,200 feet below to the surface.

Big Island Salt Farm Tour Details

This tour came highly recommended to us by our newsletter readers, so we had to try and we’re so glad we did! We didn’t know how much there was to know about sea salt, but Kona Sea Salt isn’t any ordinary salt from the ocean, it comes from 2,200 feet under the surface where microplastics and other ocean pollutants haven’t reached. We’ll let the experts explain the rest when you go on your tour, but not only does this salt take a unique journey, but it’s also packed with minerals you don’t get from other salts.

Kona Sea Salt offers morning and sunset tours. Their morning tours run at 9 and 11 am daily, and their sunset tour runs Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays at 6:15 pm. The oceanfront location is absolutely stunning, so you can’t go wrong with either option. Soak up some salty knowledge and have a salt tasting to start or end your day.

About Kona Sea Salt

Kona Sea Salt is the only sea salt in the world made from pure, 900-year-old deep ocean water, rich in natural minerals and flavor. Most sea salts are created from surface waters that have significantly lower mineral content and can have higher amounts of microplastics and contaminants. Their salt water is drawn from 2,200 feet below the ocean’s surface off Hawai‘i Island, making it one of the highest-quality finishing salts in the world.
