If you’re ready to try surfing, there’s no better time to try it than when you’re in Hawaii. On Maui’s south and west shores, you can find spots where there are gentle, rolling waves perfect for beginners.

Maui Wave Riders operate a prime spot in Kihei on South Kihei Road (the main drag) where they take you out to surf across the street at Cove Park. Their friendly and knowledgeable staff are there to make sure you have fun, stay safe, and learn to surf! They offer both group lessons and private/semi-private lessons. Kids under 10 need to do a private or semi-private lesson, but everyone else is free to do any option. They work with surfers of all abilities and are truly just so much fun. The two-hour lesson will give you the basics and leave you excited to learn more!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Please note the cancellation policy below. Kids under 10 need to do a private or semi-private lesson, but everyone else is free to do any option.

What is the cancellation policy?

Please notify Maui Wave Riders immediately of any changes or cancellations to your reservation. 48 hours out they will charge you a 50% fee and reservations not canceled within 24 hours of the scheduled lesson time will be subject to full payment. The credit card used to guarantee your reservation will be charged 100% of the total price. Lessons can be modified within 12 hours’ notice, subject to availability.

To change or cancel a confirmed reservation and obtain a cancellation confirmation, please call Maui Wave Riders.

What is the difference between semi-private and private surf lessons?

SEMI-PRIVATE LESSONS

Their Semi-Private lesson is great for couples or for kids! It consists of 2-12 students from your party with a private instructor. This lesson will be more individualized than our Group Lesson. It allows you more time with your instructor and you do not share your instructor with anyone outside of your party. Remember you must have a least 2 people in your party to book a Semi-Private Lesson.

PRIVATE

Maui Wave Riders suggest a private lesson for those who want a more advanced lesson or complete individualized attention. They also recommend a private lesson for surfers who want to work on their skills or for those who are hesitant beginners! We definitely recommend a Private Lesson for young children!

Do they provide transport from my hotel or condo?

Transportation is not available. Uber, Lyft, and taxis are convenient ways to get to their central Kihei location from your hotel, resort, or condo in South Maui.

About Maui Wave Riders

Maui Wave Riders have been a family-owned and operated business since 1997. They’ve taught thousands to surf in one easy (and fun!) lesson. They also say that they specialize in beginners and cowards, so if you fall into one of those categories (I’m raising my hand here), they’ve got your back.
