Quick Overview

  • Location: Waikiki, Oahu
  • Type: Hotel
  • Price: $$
  • Beachfront: Yes

The Hyatt Regency Waikiki offers a multitude of luxuries, the greatest of which is its proximity. It’s right in the heart of Waikiki. It’s directly across the street from a prime stretch of iconic beach (so it’s almost beachfront). It’s a staple of Honolulu’s famous skyline. There’s a spa. It has fancy restaurants. Every room is newly renovated and well-appointed.

The destination is very much the destination here. The destination can also be a bit busy for the reasons above.

Why pay cash at the Hyatt Regency Waikiki when you can use points! Grab our guide above to learn how.

Booking the Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach with Points

The Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach is a Category 5 property in the World of Hyatt program. If you’ve been reading our reward travel articles, then you know we find Hyatt to be the best points deal for Hawaii hotels. Even better than Marriott hotels, the Hyatt vs Marriott Rewards in Hawaii debate is a close call.

We love Marriott, but Hyatt gives you a better deal. You can read all our reviews for Hyatt Hotels in Hawaii.

The Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach charges 20,000 points per night for the standard period, 17,000 for off-peak, and 23,000 for peak. These point values are for a standard room with a Waikiki city view.

If you paid in cash, you would pay about $311 USD (advanced, Hyatt member purchase price) during the standard period.

Standard period rooms are available almost all the time. Peak time is the holidays and summer. Off-peak can be found when you book a year in advance.

Earning Points for the Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach

There are several ways to earn enough points for a free stay at the Hyatt Regency Waikiki, but our preferred method is to use a credit card that offers transferable points. We will show you what that means in our guide for booking hotels in Hawaii with points.

Why We Love the Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach

By booking with points, you can avoid the higher prices of neighboring hotels like the Royal Hawaiian or the Moana Surfrider. The standard room is not spacious, but it is luxurious, as are all the other amenities at this resort.

A standard room includes the following:

    • Free internet access
    • Pool
    • Digital Key
    • Laundry
    • Fitness Center
    • On-site restaurants

Things to Know Before Booking the Hyatt Regency Oahu

You’re in the heart of Waikiki, and it feels like it. There will be noise, there will be crowds. Expect a fair share of bustle.

The standard rooms are small but newly renovated. Some of the communal spaces, not so much (primarily the hallways).

The resort’s restaurants are great, but expensive. When seeking more budget-friendly options, you’ll need to venture off-site, which is easy in Waikiki as restaurants are everywhere!

The rooftop pool is spectacular but not spacious, and it can get quite busy.

Take note of the promised view of a reservation. If you’re booking with points, it’s probably ‘Waikiki City.’ If not, be warned that ‘Ocean View’ does not mean ‘Oceanfront,’ and the amount of visible ocean varies greatly by floor and/or orientation within the hotel’s two octagonal towers.

The cost is $50 for self-parking and $60 for valet parking. Both are charged per night and include in-and-out privileges, but not tax and tip.

Alternatively, at only a 10-mile distance from the airport, transport by ride-share app or third-party shuttle is an excellent option for those less inclined to drive on Oahu.
