Our Experience on an Island Hopping Tour to Pearl Harbor

We have done a similar tour to this one! Jordan and I had the whole tour booked for us, so all we had to do was drive ourselves to Kahului Airport on Maui. The rest of the trip was a breeze as we spent a day exploring Pearl Harbor and the historical sites.

Is this tour worth the price?

That is up to you to decide! Some of our readers find the price to be too high, as you can book your own inter-island flight for $75 to $150 per person.

You can take a taxi or an Uber to Pearl Harbor National Memorial for a DIY tour.

Or, you can have a tour company pick you up at the airport. See our list of favorite Pearl Harbor tour companies.

The benefit of booking this tour for us is the following:

  • No stress. The tour company provides all the logistics.
  • Early morning and evening inter-island flights are the most expensive and sell out first. If you didn’t book early, you may have to pay a lot for tickets. See our Hawaii Island Hopping Guide.
  • USS Arizona Memorial reservations and time slots fill up quickly. If you didn’t book a slot, you can wait for a ticket to become available. Booking a tour takes care of this for you.
  • Perfect for a last-minute trip to Oahu and Pearl Harbor when you realize your bucket list experience is on another island!

What is the cancellation policy?

168 HOURS NOTICE OF CANCELLATION, before airport meeting time for 1 Day tours is required for a full refund; no-shows will incur a full charge.

NAME OR DATE CHANGES after booking has been confirmed with the airline, will be assessed a change fee of up to $250 for flight change, plus fare difference per segment or name change.

What is included?

  • Round-trip airfare from Kauai, Maui, or the Big Island to Oahu
  • Admission to the USS Arizona Memorial, Battleship Missouri, Bowfin Submarine, and Aviation Museum
  • Live expert narration from a knowledgeable guide
  • Lunch at the Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum’s Hangar Café

What’s not included?

  • Gratuities: See our Tipping in Hawaii for guidance.
  • Personal expenses

What is the Itinerary?

  • Flight Check-in: Meet at Lihue Airport (LIH), Kahului Airport (OGG), or Kona Airport (KOA) at 5:45 AM (details will be provided) for your flight to Oahu. Check in at the Hawaiian Airlines self-service kiosk or ticket counter.
  • Pearl Harbor Visitor Center: Learn about the history of the attack with exhibits and film footage
  • USS Arizona Memorial: Pay tribute to those lost in the attack on Pearl Harbor
  • Bowfin Submarine: Explore this historic vessel known as the “Pearl Harbor Avenger.”
  • USS Missouri: Tour the battleship where Japan signed the surrender ending WWII
  • Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum: View historic aircraft and exhibits in WWII-era hangars
  • Pearl Harbor Visitor Center: Learn about the history of the attack with exhibits and film footage
  • Drop off at Honolulu Airport for your flight back!

What are the meal options?

Lunch is included at the Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum’s Hangar Cafe.

If you get hungry before that stop, you can pay out of pocket. There are food trucks and food stalls at the USS Missouri and at the USS Bowfin Submarine.

What should I bring?

Please dress comfortably and respectfully. Shirts and shoes are required at the USS Arizona Memorial. Swimsuits are not permitted in the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center, including with bags or backpacks; if needed, bags may be stored at the Visitor Center for a fee ($8).

We packed a small backpack for our island-hopping day to Pearl Harbor. We left our bag in the tour company’s shuttle. You can also pay for bag storage at the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center. Warning: do not overpack or bring too much!

  • Valid government-issued ID for TSA check
  • Camera (no bags allowed)
  • Special requirements: Ensure that the name on your ticket matches your government-issued ID exactly.
  • Restrictions: Wallets, cell phones, government-issued ID, bottled water, and cameras are permitted. Only clear bags with visible contents are allowed, such as a small transparent stadium-style tote or a resealable quart-sized plastic bag (like a Ziploc). Oversized clear bags may still be restricted; please keep items to a minimum.

If you’re not looking to spend the whole day at Pearl Harbor, or just want to explore more options, read all about visiting Pearl Harbor on your own or check out our other Pearl Harbor tour recommendations!
