Available Vehicles for Your Private Road to Hana Tour
Choose from a Ford Transit Van with leather interior pilot seats. This 2023 van provides large windows and a high viewpoint for looking over the roadside rails and barriers. This van is perfect for groups larger than four people.

A Bronco Convertible is also available if that is more to your liking! For groups of 4 or less, enjoy the Road to Hana in style.
In the top image, you will see Erica in the new Bronco. We took the Bronco out for our tour. We all loved riding with the top down!
Update on Waianapanapa Black Sand Beach: In July 2026, the State of Hawaii began roadwork at the state park. The number of available reservations has been reduced! Holo Holo Maui has found that securing reservations can be nearly impossible. But they offer a solution! They will do their best to secure reservations for your visit, but if they cannot secure access, they will visit Koki Red Sand Beach or Hamoa Beach as an alternative stop for viewing and swimming. Construction and this issue are expected to last till early 2027.
Private Road to Hana Tour Descriptions
Each tour option can be customized to your liking! Check out our full Road to Hana Guide, complete with our favorite stops, so you know what’s available and can add any stops you won’t want to miss!
Our tour guide, Joe, listened to our interests to pick some great stops. As we are frequent Road to Hana visitors, he was able to design an itinerary of our favorite stops plus new stops.
Your guide will design the best day for your group based on the level of adventure, the weather, what is open, and other factors. That is the benefit of going on a private tour!
Snacks and water are included with each tour, but lunch and other food stops are not included in the price.

Taste of Hana
- The route is Halfway to Hana, so this won’t take you to Hana town.
- 7-8 hour tour with flexible departure time (recommended departure between 8 am-10 am)
- Drive through Pa’ia town and the North Shore with jaw-dropping views
- See and swim in waterfalls, explore coastal tidepools, and enjoy a stop at Aunty Sandy’s Banana Bread Stand!

Hana Bound!
This is the route we did! The kids enjoyed the sweet treats along the way, and we enjoyed learning new Road to Hana facts and history from Joe.

- 8-9 hour tour with 7-8:30 am departure time
- You’ll get to experience everything in Taste of Hana plus…

Watch our experience on their Hana Bound! We had a blast, and it shows in this video. It gives you an idea of what to expect with a private Road to Hana tour.

Bamboo Forest Trek (Pipiwai Trail in Kipahulu District)
We will do this tour on our next trip out with this company. Explore the Road to Hana on this unique tour. Here is how the tour works.
You will drive straight to Kipahulu District so you can beat the crowds. Hike the famous Pipiwai Trail with its waterfalls, bamboo forest, and ancient banyan tree.
The guide will either take you on the back side of Haleakala or take you back towards Hana on the Hana Highway. Either way, you will skip the crowds while seeing some of the best stops on the Road to Hana!
This is one of our preferred routes for the Road to Hana as you skip the crowds at the major locations.
- This is a full-circle route to Hana and around the base of Haleakala, including a 4-mile hike.
- 10-12 hour tour with 7-8 am departure time
- Must be 8 years or older to participate
- This tour is similar to All the Way Around!, but it features a 4-mile hike on the Pipiwai Trail.
- Marvel at striking views of 200 and 400-foot waterfalls, a massive Banyan tree, and incredible, lush scenery.
- Take the road less traveled by circling the base of Haleakala.
