Napali Coast Tour Details

Choosing to sail with Makana Tours means you can really customize your experience without booking a private tour (though they do offer private tours). They are unique because you can choose from 3 different boats. We’ll cover the differences below, but here’s what you’ll get with their tours:

  • Choose from a morning or afternoon tour. Morning tours are a bit smoother, which is better for those prone to seasickness (take medication if you need to) and families with small children.
  • Everything you need is included: snorkel gear, a deli lunch, and refreshments. All you need to bring is sunscreen, hats, towels, and your swimwear.
  • Pregnancies are allowed on the Na Pali Kai III! This is really hard to find with boat tours, so if anyone in your group is pregnant, this is the absolute best option. Just be sure to get a doctor’s note.
  • Departure location is closer to the Napali coastline than most other tours, meaning less time getting there, and more time enjoying!

Find the best vessel for you and book directly with the tour operator using the buttons below:

The Seiko 1 & 2

16 guests per tour on a 34′ power catamaran. Children ages 9+

5-hour tours start at 8:30 AM and 2:00 PM

This vessel is Coast Guard Certified for up to 20 guests, but they cap it at 16 to give you more space and an upgraded experience. Easy access boarding. Onboard restroom.

The Na Pali Kai III

32 guests per tour on a 49′ catamaran. Ages 4+

5-hour tours start at 8:30 AM and 2 PM

Departs from Kikiaola Small Boat Harbor (click for directions) close to the Napali coast itself

The Amelia K

36 guests per tour on a 47′ catamaran. Ages 4+.

4.5 to 5-hour tours start at 8 AM and 2 PM

This is their only vessel that departs from Port Allen (click for directions), which is about 22 minutes from Poipu, versus Kikiaola Small Boat Harbor, which is about 32 minutes from Poipu.

This vessel is slightly more crowded than theirs, but you do get on-board restrooms on this boat, while the others do not.

Napali Coast Tour FAQ

Know Before You Go Snorkel Safety

Swimming and snorkeling in the Pacific Ocean should not be taken lightly. To keep you safe, please know your health limits, swim with a buddy, never turn your back on the ocean, and read and obey posted signs. Check HIOceanSafety.com for ocean conditions at lifeguard beaches.

Do I have to purchase tickets in advance?

Yes. To book a private charter or a shared charter, simply purchase one standard ticket for a charter up to 16 people. Trips often sell out so they suggest purchasing your ticket early to guarantee your desired tour day.

What is the cancellation policy?

All customers will receive a full refund when canceling prior to the following timeframes. A 48-hour cancellation notice is required for parties of 6 or less. A 72-hour cancellation notice is required for parties of 7 to 10. A 96-hour cancellation notice is required for parties of 11+ and a 168-hour (1 week) cancellation notice for ALL private charters.

Contact by phone to cancel or inquire about a cancellation. No-shows will be charged the full price, and there will be no refunds for last-minute cancellations (no exceptions). This includes any last-minute illnesses, injuries, etc. If you don’t show up, or want to reschedule at the last minute, a rebooking fee will be applied at half the cost of your original reservation to reschedule or rebook.

What happens if it rains?

Their trips usually run in moderate weather conditions. In the event of severe or unsafe weather conditions, ticket-holders will be contacted and allowed to reschedule tickets (subject to availability), receive credit for a future event, or receive a full refund.

Is this tour good for all ages?

In general, this tour is appropriate for most ages, depending on ocean conditions. Starting at 3 years old. You may want to check in to see how the weather and condition during the winter.

Can I bring food or drinks on the trip?

Non alcoholic drinks, a deli lunch, and snacks are provided. However, feel free to bring additional food, drinks, or snacks.

How long do we snorkel?

There is about 1 hour for snorkeling and lunch. Plan to snorkel at Makole, Ke’e Beach (tunnels), Nualolo Kai, or Kekaha and Kaumakani if the surf is up along the Napali Coast.

Do I need to know how to swim?

It is recommended that you know how to swim when snorkeling. However, they do provide flotation gear for those who do not know how to swim.

Is there any shade on the boat?

Yes! They have a canopy that provides shade, and there’s cushioned seating as well. They have open deck seating, all forward-facing and open air. You may choose to relax in the shaded and cushioned seats, or ride in the warm tropical sun on the padded deck seating. Expect the sun to shine in from the sides of the boat as they are open. Therefore, they still recommend sunscreen.

Is the cruise suitable for pregnant women?

Since they’re the only tour company in the area who allow pregnant women to participate (depending on weather conditions), they require written consent from a doctor. Pregnant women should consult with their doctors before participating, check the weather conditions, and bring the doctor’s consent upon check-in.

Will I get seasick?

Guests usually find the tour boat very steady. However, if you know you’re prone to seasickness, it’s best to take the appropriate medication as directed prior to the tour.

Are life jackets available on board?

Yes, life jackets for all passengers are provided on board. You are not required to wear a life vest while on board, but they have them available should you want to wear one.
