Our Experience on the Hawaiian Sailing Canoe Tour

We went out with Maui Sailing Canoe on a recent trip and had a wonderful time. We got to meet one of the owners, Sage, who is a wonderful human. He shared Hawaiian history, and old stories of Maui, and pointed out local landmarks and all those Wailea mansions that you can’t see from land.

They leave from Polo Beach which is right in front of the Fairmont Kea Lani and the Polo Beach Club. This is a beach loading tour but it was easy for Erica and me with our 2- and 5-year-old kids to board. The kids rode on the sailing canoe as I helped push the canoe into the water.

The sail to the snorkeling spot was peaceful, and we loved sitting on the netting as Sage and his crew member Brody did the canoeing and sailing.

The snorkeling itself was excellent because they were able to reach areas that are harder to get to from shore or with a bigger boat. We swam with turtles, a friendly reef shark, an eel, and a turtle even came right up to our canoe!

We want to go out with them during whale season (December – March) as they get close encounters. We can’t wait to go back out with them!

About Maui Sailing Canoe

Owners Sage and Liz started Maui Sailing Canoe in 2005 when they saw an opportunity to combine their love of ocean sports and their desire to have more time with their kids. They were both born and raised in Hawaii, Sage on Oahu and Liz on Maui, and met while attending the California Maritime Academy. Their love for the islands and what they do is evident.
