Quick Overview
In a nutshell: Beachfront location in Waikoloa, a good option for booking with points!
Overview of the Waikoloa Beach Marriott
The big selling point for this hotel is its beachfront location on the Kohala Coast. If you’re still deciding which area best suits your vacation style, our article comparing Kona vs Waikoloa will help with that. Basically, you’re getting beach vacation and resort vibes out here, and this Marriott is a solid choice if that’s what you’re looking for!
The rooms aren’t stunning, but if you’re planning to take advantage of the resort amenities and spend time exploring outside, it’s still a good place to make your home base.
We cover things to do in the area, including this hotel, in our Waikoloa video below!

The Waikoloa Beach Marriott Key Facts
The Waikoloa Beach Marriott Location:
This hotel has one of the best spots in all of Waikoloa, sitting right on A-Bay!
Waikoloa is a planned resort community located on the Kohala Coast, 30 minutes north of the Kailua-Kona airport. This region is popular with visitors for having the best beaches on the island as well as excellent whale watching in the winter.
The Waikoloa Beach Marriott Pool:
This hotel has three pools: an infinity pool, a children’s pool, and a pool with a waterslide. There’s a zero-entry pool, which is a great place for little ones to splash around. We’ve always had a lot of fun at the pool here!

Booking the Waikoloa Beach Marriott
Booking Marriott hotels with points can be tricky, as they don’t offer a comparable points value to Hyatt properties. See our Hyatt vs Marriott Rewards in Hawaii for details.
But with some strategy and flexible timing, it’s not unrealistic to get five or six nights for free from opening up a couple of cards. See our Best Credit Cards for Hawaii Travel for details on what cards to pick.
Marriott’s reward system uses dynamic pricing for points that vary similarly to the cash rate of a room. You may find that some nights you get more value from your points compared to the cash rate than others.
Generally speaking, a room at the Waikoloa Beach Marriott is around $700 per night, excluding taxes (includes $40 resort fee). Depending on the time of year, that rate can fluctuate quite a bit.
Looking at May 2026, the average nightly rate is around $686, and points needed per night range from 54,000 to 89,000 per night.

Earning Points to Book the Waikoloa Beach Marriott
When booking this hotel with points, it is one of our preferred options on the Big Island. It made our list of the Top Hawaii Hotels with Points. You can find good deals with points if you’re flexible and you book early. This Marriott is more reasonably priced compared to the Westin Hapuna or Mauna Kea Beach Hotel.
We prefer to keep things simple when booking hotels in Hawaii using points.
We recommend getting a bank credit card where you can transfer points to Marriott Bonvoy. Start with our favorite travel card. If you have a side hustle or a business, get a business credit card. The welcome bonuses will reward you with one to three free nights at the Waikoloa Beach Marriott.

The Waikoloa Beach Marriott Review: why we love it
- Location: This hotel is right on A-Bay, giving you easy beach access. To be 100% honest, this is not the most beautiful beach on the Big Island. Not even close (see our list of awesome beaches here). But this is a great beach because it’s often the most protected beach on the Kohala Coast from big waves and swells. This sunset sail leaves from A-Bay, so you don’t even have to get in the car for a fun activity! Plus, it’s within walking distance to Lava Lava Beach Club and the King’s Shops.
- Sunset Luau! They have the best luau in the Waikoloa Resort area. Enjoy the sunset over A-Bay as you feast on Hawaiian classics, enjoy the fire-knife dancing, and drink up on the open bar. Book this even if you don’t stay at the Waikoloa Beach Marriott!
- Amenities: This resort offers a wide range of activities, including cultural classes, petroglyph fields, ancient fish ponds, a golf course, and a spa and fitness center. We think you should explore more of the Big Island, but you can absolutely spend a few days here without getting bored.

Things to Know Before Booking The Waikoloa Beach Marriott
- Double beds: This hotel has either king or double beds, rather than the typical king and queen beds. So they’re a bit more snug than the standard hotel.
- Rooms are dated: They could use a refresh, but this isn’t a dealbreaker for most people, just know you probably won’t be wowed by your room.
- Resort and parking fees: Unfortunately, high resort and parking fees are par for the course in Hawaii. Like many resorts, the Marriott charges both a daily resort fee and a daily parking fee, which is not included in the room rate. This can be sticker shock if you’re not expecting it.
- Marriott loyalty doesn’t get you much here: Unfortunately, having status in the Marriott Bonvoy program doesn’t go as far here as it does for many other hotels. So, room upgrades and other special perks are hard to come by.
