You’ve decided to visit the Polynesian Cultural Center on your Hawaii vacation itinerary. But I get it, the Super Ambassador luau package is a splurge, and you want to know if it’ll be money well spent.
I visited the Polynesian Cultural Center with the Ali’i Luau Package, toured the Gateway Buffet, and recently visited with the Super Ambassador Package.
The Super Ambassador package is worth it to fully experience the Polynesian Cultural Center and attend the Ali’i Luau and the HA: Breath of Life show. The high ticket price provides a true VIP experience. If front-row seating and a private guide aren’t required for your visit, purchase the Ali’i Luau or Gateway Buffet packages.
The Super Ambassador Package allowed me to experience more of the PCC by participating in more shows and activities. My guide (from Aotearoa!) shared her stories and traditions with me throughout the day, making for a memorable experience.
My family also had a great time on the Ali’i Luau Package the year prior. I’m glad the PCC offered me a comped Super Ambassador Package ticket so I could compare the two packages. Here is my honest feedback on the Super Ambassador Package so you can make their right purchase for your trip!
Jordan and I are affiliate partners with the Polynesian Cultural Center (PCC), but our opinions are our own. With whatever package you choose, you will enjoy the Polynesian Cultural Center.

PCC Super Ambassador Luau Package Review
You’ll get access to all three main attractions: the Polynesian Island Villages, the Ali’i Luau, and the HA: Breath of Life Show. What takes this package up a notch is the following perks:
- A private guide for the Polynesian Island Villages
- Reserved seating for performances in the Island Villages
- Front row seating for the Ali’i Luau
- Early access to the Ali’i Luau buffet
- Front row seating for the HA: Breath of Life show
I had a wonderful time and enjoyed all these perks. Based on my experience, here’s a breakdown of when it is and is not worth your money:

Pros of the Super Ambassador Luau Package
The Super Ambassador Luau package from the Polynesian Cultural Center is the highest ticket tier you can purchase.
If you want to experience the Polynesian Cultural Center to its fullest and go to the Ali’i Luau and the HA: Breath of Life show, this package is the way to go (especially for first-timers)!
Let’s dig into the following pros of the Super Ambassador Luau Package:
- Private guide: Who doesn’t want a private guide who provides an individualized experience, treats you like a VIP, and moves at your pace? We love a private tour!
- Organized day: Having a guide (private or group) means your stops are organized and efficient. You’ll see and learn much more. I had been to the PCC several times and hadn’t seen many of the short performances or tried certain activities. With a private guide, I got a healthy sampling of all the Island Villages, and my guide kept me on track to try everything I wanted to before our time together ran out. This is especially helpful if it’s your first time!
- Great seats everywhere you go: Not only do you get prime seating for the Luau and HA: Breath of Life show, you’ll get reserved seating in one of the first rows at each Island Village’s short performances.
- Multi-day access (every package): This isn’t exclusive to the Super Ambassador package, but it’s worth noting as a plus because it gives you a chance to get more from that premium price you’re paying. Every ticket gives you 3-day entry to the Island Villages. We have always felt that one day at the PCC is sufficient, but there is plenty to keep you busy for multiple days if you want to stay at the Marriott and pair it with some other Things to Do in Laie.

Cons of the Super Ambassador Luau Package
If you’re not interested in having a private guide or would rather eat at the Gateway Buffet than go to the Ali’i Luau, the Super Ambassador Luau package is not worth the price. You’ll see hula dancing at Hawaii’s Island Village and in the HA: Breath of Life show.
The Ali’i Luau is a lovely Hawaiian-only (no fire-knife dancers) dinner show with an imu ceremony. Still, we don’t believe “a visit to Hawaii is incomplete without a luau.”
If seeing two shows sounds like too much for one day, opt for the Gateway Buffet ticket instead! If you don’t think you’ll make it through the HA: Breath of Life Show for whatever reason (like sleepy kids), opt for the Ali’i Luau ticket instead. Compare packages here and book tickets with 10% off here.
These additional considerations apply to the Polynesian Cultural Center, so price is the only major con we see with the Super Ambassador package itself.
- Price: No matter how you slice it, the idea of paying almost $300 per Super Ambassador ticket is what brought you to this article in the first place. That ticket is worth a lot of mai tais, and there isn’t even alcohol served at the PCC.
- It’s a long day: If you’re going to get the most out of your ticket, you’ll be looking at a 12-hour day packed with activities and performances. If you have young kids, think about how long they’ll realistically last before they fall asleep or ask to go home. The show ends at 8:45 PM. You can expect an hour to drive back to Waikiki.
- It’s far from the resort areas: The Polynesian Cultural Center is in Laie, over an hour from Waikiki and Ko Olina and 40 minutes from Haleiwa (click here for directions). Whether you take the PCC’s transportation from Waikiki for $28 or drive yourself, you’ll spend 2+ hours on the road for the day.
- Think theme park: The PCC is a tourist attraction that feels like a theme park, minus the rides. That’s not inherently bad, but this means it’s busy and can feel overwhelming at times.

What to Expect from the Super Ambassador Luau Package
The flow of the day is the same regardless of what package you choose, so the difference is in the details. Let’s dive in.
Pickup in Waikiki (10:30 AM)
If you’re not staying nearby, you can opt for pickup in Waikiki at an additional charge. We think letting the PCC handle your transportation is entirely worth it. The drive is over an hour, with guests arriving and leaving at the same time frames, so taking the bus helps alleviate traffic.
Their buses are large coach buses, with no perks or private transit for Super Ambassadors.

The PCC offers a return service around 6:30 PM and another at 9:30 PM. This gives you the option to return to Waikiki after the luau, but you don’t want to do that; you want to stay for the HA: Breath of Life show!
Check-in and Ticketing
You’ll receive your tickets via email with a QR code ready for scanning. As long as you have the QR code, you won’t have to bother with ticketing lines!
If you get there before the doors officially open, you can enjoy a welcome performance in the Hukilau Marketplace, just outside the gates to the PCC.
Once you scan your ticket, you’ll be introduced to your private guide, who will take you through the island villages in perfect timing!

Most of the staff are from various Polynesian nations, are Brigham Young University (BYU) students, and participate in the PCC’s IWORK program, which helps with education and living expenses.
My guide was from New Zealand (Aotearoa), and it was terrific to get that bonus of her personal stories throughout the tour.
Island Villages (12:30 PM – 4:30 PM)
The first of the three main attractions is the six Island Villages representing Hawai’i, Fiji, Aotearoa (New Zealand), Samoa, Tahiti, and Tonga. They have taken great care in constructing each village with materials from that island using traditional methods. There is a lot to learn, do, and see here!

Each village features performances, games, and full-size builds of houses, canoes, and other significant structures.
As a Super Ambassador, your private guide will take you through each village, timing your visits so you see every village’s short performance. You will also get reserved seating in one of the front rows at each performance.
Despite my familiarity with the Polynesian Cultural Center, I had never seen some short performances. When I would go with my family, we would meander through the villages until something caught our attention that we wanted to see or try. This was a delightful change of pace and gave me new things to show my husband and kids on our next visit.

Ali’i Luau Dinner (5:30 PM – 6:30 PM)
The Ali’i Luau is a welcome change of pace during your jam-packed day. The show is exclusively Hawaiian, so if you’re looking for fire-knife dancers, you won’t find them here, but your day isn’t over yet!
When you arrive, you’ll get a flower lei greeting. Super Ambassadors receive a complimentary photo (usually an extra charge) and are shown to premium seats near the stage. This ticket also gives you priority access to the buffet.

The luau starts with an imu ceremony, pulling the pig out of the in-ground oven. Staff will greet you at your table with a smoothie, ensure you’re comfortable, and answer any questions. If you have any dietary restrictions or allergies, you can pull up the buffet menu and filter ingredients to see what options you’re interested in before you get to the buffet.

HA: Breath of Life Show (7:30 PM)
I’ll start by saying that phones, photos, and videos are not permitted during the show. All the magic is saved for your own two eyes, but you are welcome to the stage at the end to meet and take pictures with the cast.
Without spoiling the storyline or the thrill, I’ll say the luau is a show, HA is a production. The cast is primarily made up of Brigham Young University students, and I underestimated the experience I was about to have.
They’re certainly not just students but professional performers, and the show was executed perfectly. Think Cirque du Soleil without the contortionists: immersive, theatrical, and breathtaking. No, really, I found myself holding my breath watching the fire dancers – the level of talent and precision was unreal.
Super Ambassadors get Platinum level seating for the show, which puts you in the first three rows at the front of the stage.

What’s Not Included
The only thing not included with the Super Ambassador ticket is the Gateway Buffet. After all, you can’t be in two places at once.
Is the Super Ambassador Luau Package Worth It?
If you’re liking the sound of the Super Ambassador package and the tickets work for your budget, go for it! It’s an excellent option for solo travelers, couples, or small groups who want a more personalized VIP experience.
One of our newsletter readers had this to say about the Super Ambassador package:
It was a great day and then the most amazing Lu’au! The music, storytelling and dancing were fabulous and the food was incredible- service was fantastic. We then proceeded to the outdoor theatre for the Ha – breath of life show.
Incredible! Our seats were really good and we could feel the heat from the torches during the show.
While the price tag for 4 tickets was pretty hefty, I have no regrets spending the money because it was the best lu’au experience I have ever had!
I highly recommend the entire package
