Activity Overview
Maui Volcanoes Tour Highlights
Haleakala National Park and ‘Iao Valley make our list of can’t-miss Maui things to do. We are big fans of Hawaii’s volcanoes as they define the island. Visit both of Maui’s volcanoes on the same day with this group tour.
Here are the highlights:
- Duration: 8 -9 Hours
- Time: 12 – 1 PM to 8 – 9 PM
- Pickup is available at your hotel or vacation rental
- Sunset on Haleakala is included!
- Small group shared tour of only 6-11 guests total (private groups also possible)
- A passionate local guide shares Maui’s history and culture while handling all logistics to ensure your comfort and enjoyment
- Convenient pickup in a comfortable Mercedes van, with a light dinner and snacks included
- Pride of America Passengers! This PoA Maui Volcanoes tour is available exclusively for you on Mondays, without sunset, to get you back to the ship for departure.
Why This Tour Stands Out
- More personal tour with only 6-11 people; other volcano tours can be up to 24
- Compared to the Haleakala sunrise tours, you can sleep in! There is no need to wake up at 3 AM. Also, you can expect warmer temperatures at sunset, with the temperature rising up to 15-20 degrees warmer during the day.
- This tour usually goes to the actual summit at over 10,000 feet, unlike the larger tours that usually don’t (only the upper visitor center).
- Your local guide is not just the driver but is with you throughout the experience to bring history and culture alive while ensuring everyone has a fun and safe time.
- A light dinner from a popular local cafe is served picnic-style near the Summit, whereas other tours either have no meals or may stop at a souvenir shop for food.
- For sunset viewing, the tour guide will have camping chairs, blankets, hand warmers, and hot beverages (hot chocolate, tea, and instant coffee). That is hard to beat.

Haleakala & Iao Valley Group Tour FAQ
Here are a few FAQs for this tour. Click the booking buttons to learn more and to answer all your questions.
What is the cancellation policy?
- Refundable until 3 days prior, or 1 week for tours of 10+ people
- If there is a weather cancellation, you will be contacted to reschedule or receive a refund
- On occasion, the minimum of 6 paid seats for the shared tour may not be met, in which case we will contact you with options. Tip: to see how many people are already booked on a tour, click the date and if anyone is already booked on that date, it will say how many seats are left (out of 11).
What vehicle is used?
In general, it will be on a spacious and comfortable Mercedes-Benz Sprinter tour van, which handles up to 11 passengers, although smaller tours with six or fewer would likely be on the Mercedes-Benz Metris minivan.
Is this tour wheelchair accessible?
This tour is somewhat accessible for wheelchair users. One collapsible or folding wheelchair will fit in the vehicle, but it is not provided for guests. While a collapsible wheelchair can be accommodated, the vehicle is not ADA-compliant, and guests should be able to get in and out without assistance from the driver (assistance from your party is okay!). There are points in the tour where stairs provide access to certain viewpoints or lookouts. For more information about visiting Hawaii with a disability, check out our handicap accessibility guide.
Is this tour for kids?
Shared tours have a minimum age of 4 years old, but private tours are open to all ages. This is a long day in the car, so consider how your kids will do with that before booking. Private tours can also be personalized to better suit your kids’ needs, whether you prefer a shorter tour or one that doesn’t ascend to 10,000 feet on Haleakala.
