You’ll be car-dependent but central to all the North Shore has to offer, including the stunning Hanalei Bay and a ton of great activities. The Villas of Kamalii at Princeville Review: why we love it

  • The views: of course every unit will differ, but some (if not most) boast incredible views of Kauai’s mountainous landscape. Some units even have panoramic views from the lanais or even inside with multiple floor-to-ceiling windows.
  • Massive units: the units here are huge! We’re talking starting at 1,800 square feet for the 2-bedroom units. This is great for large groups, especially of adults, but will work wonderfully for big families with the babies and the grandparents, friends, just about anyone!
  • Lanai: most of these units have not 1, not 2, but 3 lanais or more, giving you plenty of space to enjoy the sunrise or sunset sipping on coffee or your favorite cocktail.
  • North Shore activities: there are a ton of great things to do on the North Shore including seeing the NaPali Coast on a raft tour or on a cushier catamaran tour both leaving right from Hanalei Bay.

Things to Know Before Booking The Villas of Kamalii at Princeville

  • Not all units have A/C: Air conditioning is sparse at this property. Not all of the units are equipped with A/C and those that do may only have it available in certain rooms.
  • Winter warnings: Kauai’s North Shore gets a lot of rain and rough waters in the winter. Beach days won’t be in the cards and the area has previously experienced significant flooding. We love the North Shore, just keep in mind if you’re visiting in the winter, you won’t want to make this your only Kauai destination.
  • Car dependent: Like with most north shore accommodations, you’ll be reliant on a car to get to beaches or nearby attractions.
  • Accessibility: These units are not handicap accessible and do not have elevators. If you’re looking for a property that can accommodate wheelchairs or other accessibility needs, check out our guide to a handicap accessible Hawaii vacation.
  • Rental fees: All accommodations in Hawaii can come with some (rather large) fees. Whether you’re in a hotel paying resort fees or you’re getting a vacation rental and paying service fees, factor these into your equation. We usually go with VRBO because we’ve found that these fees are usually lower than what you’ll find on other similar platforms.
  • No unit consistency: all of these vacation rentals are individually owned, so there’s a lack of consistency. Some have excellent views and others come with a less impressive view or fewer helpful in-unit amenities. Reading reviews of individual units can always give you a better sense of what to expect before booking.
